A at the foot of the Gavarres mountain range, Josep Serramia Fabregas has turned this 14th-century hospital into an amazing four-star Hotel ( Jakarta Hotels ). Some exciting modern architecture has been blended with the old building. One visitor had an open-plan bedroom: It worked well though the loo was partitioned off with frosted glass. A hi-tech junior suite had modern lighting not good for reading in bed, a few plumbing problems; the soap was tiny. But breakfast was generous with smoked salmon, lots of different sausages, eggs, etc, and the menu degustation six main courses and two desserts was outstandingly good, giving comprehensive satisfaction course after course. A different local wine accompanies each dish. Good value (about £30). Service in both Hotel ( Jakarta Hotels )and restaurant was outstandingly good. There is a three-level swimming pool in the large grounds. The Costa Brava beaches are near.

In a wonderful setting with spectacular views across the Montseny national park, this restaurant-with-rooms (similar to Bandung,Jakarta & Bali hotels - 5 star Hotel ( Jakarta Hotels )rooms), in a 1620s converted farmhouse an hour's drive from Barcelona, was liked again this year: Friendly, comfortable, excellent service. The hearty Catalan cooking, which uses local produce, fish, mountain raspberries, etc, earns a Michelin Bib Gourmand. Our room, large and high-ceilinged, had a view over the gardens. Another room was small but comfortable. An especially good breakfast is taken on warm days under vines on a terrace by the very attractive pool: from here you can watch the buzzards in the mountains.
